Lisa saves the day for young 'veges'
Three youngsters who won a helicopter ride on Ohakune's 'Carrot Day', last September, finally got their prize at the week-end — thanks to helicopter pilot Lisa Patterson and Wanganui Aero Works. Monica and Rosalie Battersby and Paula Greenwood were three of the six youngsters who won a helicopter ride after dressing up as vegetables, as part of the Carrot Day festivities. Unfortunately, the organiser of the competition had not arranged for a helicopter pilot to give the youngsters their prize! As the months passed, it appeared as if the young prize winners would never get the flight they had been promised — until last week when Lisa Patterson stepped in to prevent the youngsters being disappointed. Three of the youngsters were contacted, but despite an advertisement being placed in the Bulletin, a further three of the prize winners could not be found. So on Saturday, Monica (who had been a carrot), Rosalie (a potato) and Paula (a Brussels sprout), accompanied by Monica and Rosalie's mum and dad and Paula's mum and brother, took to the air in the Wanganui Aero Works
'copter with Lisa at the controls. For half an hour Lisa entertained the youngsters — and parents — with her flying skills, taking both families over their homes and also up to the top of Mt Ruapehu to allow them to
see the Crater Lake from the air. Although it took almost six months for the youngsters to get their trip in a helicopter, they all agreed it had been worth the wait. After the flight there was a box of chocolates waiting for Lisa — for making the day for a carrot, a potato and a Brussels sprout!
