Soldier killed

A twenty-one year old Lance Corporal was killed at the Waiouru military base on Tuesday when the fork lift truck he was driving rolled over. Richard McDonald, 21, a Regular Force soldier from the Army's First Supply Company, based at Ngaruawahia, was driving a West German rough-terrain fork lift on a steep bank when it rolled over. The vehicle is being tested for possible use by the New Zealand Army. Lance Corporal McDonald, a single man, lived in Christchurch. The Army is to carry out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
