Racing with BULLY

What a fantastic money earner for both the breeders of thoroughbreds and the Government tax grabbers, the annual National Yearling Saies at Wellington has turned out to be. This year over twentyeight and a half million dollars changed hands and most of this money came from the Australians. The quality is obviously there because the same buyers keep on returning

year after year. Strong support is also coming from the Malaysians and there is good buying being done by visitors from the UK. It is amazing to think that Sir Tristram yearlings averaged over $149,000 while Imposing topped the average with over $160,000 per sale. However whereas Sir Tristram had 46 saies Imposing had but twelve. Vice Regal and Balmerino stock also sold very well indeed. *

After all this excitment and what with the Wellington Cup now having been run, racing returns this week with a very quiet day racing at Wairoa and Rotorua. The Rotorua meeting will probably hold most interest on the day. From Te Rapa several that would well be worth an interest would include Tullia, Arganaut Rose, Kitty Oshea and the ever consistent Madam Fox. Cambridge representative Trouza is working in Fine style and keep an eye out for

Taupo Tiger. This fellow has a ton of speed and could lead his opposition a fruitless chase. There is also word out for Bugis Street trained at Tauranga. For Wairoa watch out for a couple from Awapuni that could make the trip, they are Super Tai and Zamyntor while Highland Knight could also win another at short notice. Several Waikato and Bay of Plenty horses often trek down to this meeting so keep

Local racing folk will be well aware by now that. Wanganui has lost its late January meeting and now the next racing there will not be until the end of March and that will be over three months since they last lined up in the River City. It is a long time. a wary eye on some of these who make the trip for what they think could be easy pickings. Remember, Bully tips them first and you have read it in the Bulletin.
