Ohakune District Court

The following cases were heard by Judge E. W. Unwin in the Ohakune District Court on Friday 25 January 1985. Denise Cribb, 1 8, shearers' assistant, of Raetihi was released on probation for twelve months on two charges, one of burglary related to a pair of Homestead Brand woollen boots valued at $74 taken from the Sheepskin Shop in Ohakune on 8 June 1984, and another charge of breaking and entering Dal-

gety Crown Ltd in Seddon Street, Raetihi on 22 September 1984. His Honour told Miss Cribb that she not only had a final warning entered on her record for the burglary charge but that her probation was subject to four conditions. 1 . She must pay compensation of $1,000 and $74 respectively to Dalgety Crown and the Sheepskin Shop. 2. She must live and work where directed by the Probation Officer. 3. She must obey any curfew set down by her Probation Officer. 4. That

she must refrain from alcohol which his Honour stated was the reason she committed the offence at Dalgety Crown. Miss Cribb was ordered to pay witnesses' fee of $78. Mr D. G. Harvey appeared for the defendant. ★ ★ ★ Maria Vicky Nanette Condon, 3 1 , married woman of Raetihi, appeared for sentencing on two charges, the first of failing to report to her Probation Officer and a second of breaching the Social Welfare Act. Counsel Mr D. G. Harvey

sought peririission from Judge Unwin for leave to vacate the plea of guilty to the first charge as there was some question raised that she had not been aware that she had breached her probation. Probation Officer, Mr Ellis, accepted that there had been some confusion at the time and added that Mrs Condon should be entitled to the benefit of the doubt.
