Racing with BULLY
Through not paying enough attention to the racing calendar, I listed the Wellington Cup as being run on the first Saturday of the Wellington Racing Clubs Summer meeting — for that I apologise. However it is not going to alter my first choice for the big one and that is still Secured Deposit. After last Saturday's racing, quinella punters would now have to couple up Shargolvin and Duanettes Girl with Secured
Deposit and I think you would have it fairly well covered. That of course would make it a Northern sweep but it would not be the first time. Track conditions of course will make a difference but Wellington is fairly reliable at this time of the year. Up north this Saturday sees Auckland racing on their Anniversary Weekend programme and very interesting racing should again be held, although most interest will of course be at Trentham on the Saturday.
From Takanini a couple to watch would be Romantic Bay and Vivacious. Both from the Jillings stable they have been in work sometime and are now ready to show their very best. From Matamata some to be working in winning style would be Silver Tip, Document, Seaweed and Nice Try. From Te Rapa the news is to be with Kitty Oshea in her next couple of runs. Other races at Trentham that could be of interest to , locals see a number of horses
from Awapuni which would include Love Money, Fiddlers Three and Grande Fripon while the Levin horse Atrapar will give his opponents some hurry along. The jockey premiership ' has now really hotted up with David Walsh, Garry Phillips and Marie Lyndon again way out front and having a real ding-dong go about it. The three days at Wellington could sort something out here, and who ever gets the break will have a big advantage over the others. y
Another racing club has had the misfortune to have a grandstand fire, but fortune did shine a little bit on the Avondale Racing Club for the fire destroyed much of the old stand and left the two new ones unscathed. This very progressive club I am sure will soon have things put right and in the long run the fire could have been a blessing in disguise. That's it for this week and all the best punters for that Wellington Cup. Remember, Bully tips them first ... and you have read it in the Bulletin.
