A Rangataua woman is still in the intensive care unit of Wellington Hospital this week after being involved in this accident at the intersection of the Whangaehu Road and the Karioi Domain turnoff before Christmas. Three people were taken to Waimarino Hospital at Raetihi with minor injuries as a result of the accident, but Karen Howe of Rangataua was transferred to Wanganui Hospital and then to Wellington Hospital.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place soon after midnight on Saturday December 16th. Karen and Eric Howe were in a Hillman Avenger with their two children in the back seat. The children, who were in safety seats, were not injured. There were two visitors to the Waimarino in the other vehicle — a Holden Utility — at the time of the crash.
