WAIMARINO HOSPITAL EXPERIENCES BABY BOOM
Waimarino Hospital, Raetihi is in the midst of a baby boom. Last week, the maternity ward housed seven mothers and babies with four more expected at any time. Principal Nurse, Betty Longcroft, said that it is unusual for November to experience such an influx of mothers. Their busy time was generally in September. She added that the maternity wing is expected to be as busy for the remainder of the year. Nurses at the hospital have questioned the mothers as to what may have occurred in February of this year resulting in the large influx of expectant mothers. Waimarino Hospital, under the Wanganui Hospital Obstetrics Plan, should only have three beds available at any time for the maternity patients. The one full-time midwife, Angela Fahey, has been fully extended in the past week, ably assisted by the two part-time midwives.
