Two dollar investment earns $20,000 car
An Ohakune man had an extraordinary piece of good fortune when he bought a $2 ticket in a national lottery from a 10-year old Ohakune girl. To his delight and surprise, George Crichton of Miro Street found himself the owner of a Hotida Civic Shuttle worth about $20,000.
George had bought this single ticket in the Supersport Lottery No. 28 in August this year from 10-year old Noni Cleary of Mangawhero Terrace ... and promptly forgot about it. He usually buys a book of five tickets and thought his chances of winning such a prize with
only one ticket were 'pretty remote.' When he received a letter informing of his good fortune he hunted desperately for his ticket and eventually found it, still hardly believing his luck. He had 'invested'in several previous lotteries but had never won anything worthwhile. It was only when a young lady drove down from Auckland and handed over the smart new white Honda Civic Shuttle and the car keys that he managed to convince himself that he was indeed the lucky winner. Noni Cleary, with this ticket sale, has deservedly won the reputation of being a lucky ticket seller and will no doubt be in great demand when the next Lottery is launched. Noni, whose mother comes from the Tokelau Islands, was born in Wellington but has spent all her ten years in Ohakune where she attends the local primary school.
