THEFT PUTS CHILD AT RISK
Months of publicity for the Plunket Car Seat hire scheme has obviously paid off for one person in the Waimarino. On the evening of Thursday 8 November, a Mitsubishi Galant parked in a driveway of Hukaroa Road, had its child car seat stolen from the back seat. The owners of the car, Sam and Natalie Arahanga are very annoyed at the robbery as it means that their 20-month old son, Samuel, has to travel in their car unrestrained until a replacement seat can be found by Plunket. Mrs Arahanga said last week, that she hired the seat two months ago after she was involved in an incident
on the Paraparas which resulted in her son being thrown within the car and almost through the windscreen. It was then she decided to contact Plunket Car Seat organiser, Kathryn Enright, to immediat^ly hire a Child Seat. She had cleaned out the car and the seat on the evening in question and had left the car unlocked in readiness for her husband to use the next day. The robbery was not discovered until Saturday morning as Mr Arahanga had been working a double shift. Natalie Arahanga immediately contacted the Raetihi police who at this
stage have no leads to work on. Mrs Arahanga is now too frightened to go anywhere in the car whilst her son is unrestrained. Kathryn Enright is heartbroken at this second robbery in twelve months. According to her the months of fundraising and hard work by Plunket members have been dashed by this latest incident. The Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Hukaroa Road area on the evening of Thursday 8 November. Readers of the Bulletin are asked to support the Plunket Car Seat scheme.
