Annual soccer opponents clash

Despite the heavy rain, thunder and lightning, the annual soccer match between the Bank of New Zealand and the Post Office was played at Rochfort Park, home of the Ohakune Rugby Club, on Sunday 4 November. The BNZ with the help of their 'ring-ins' from the Waimarino United side, were too good for the Post

Office in all facets of play and were deserved 5-2 winners. The BNZ were further strengthened by the inclusion of Erin Goldfinch in the side. Her piercing runs and hard tackles made her an asset despite the fact that she was the only female on the pitch. However there were comments from some of the players and spectators that

there was more than one 'girl' on the field particularly after goals were scored when various players were seen to celebrate in a way seen only on 'Big League Soccer'. A social get-together after the game in the clubrooms rounded off a pleasant day. Scorers: BNZ — Tom Ball 3, Ken George and Ali Robinson goals. Post Office — James Waierea 2.
