Also on Sunday week the Waiouru fire brigade was busy extinguishing a fire in a Defence Department house in Weir Terrace. The cause of the fire was probably an electrical fault in some appliance in the kitchen and smoke and water damage was confined to that area of the house — "about 30percent" — said Waiouru fire chief Murray Aston. The occupants of the house were away at the time.
