The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade didn't have far to travel last Sunday week to put out this chimney fire in Ayr Street. The fire proved difficult to extinguish however because the build-up of soot and 'gunk' between the metal flue and brick chimney prevented penetration by the hoses, said Ohakune's fire chief Max Martin.
