LIGHTNING STRIKES

A freak electrical storm which struck a wide area south of the Waimarino last Sunday week affected toll services out of Ohakune, Raetihi and Waiouru. Only those toll lines south of the Waimarino were affected when lightning struck an underground cable between Waiouru and Taihape on Sunday afternoon during a hailstorm. Telephone technicians, linesmen and faults service personnel managed to restore full services to most subscribers by late Sunday evening when they found and repaired the damaged line.
