NEW CLUB GLIDER
The Ruapehu Gliding Club recently held its 23rd Annual General Meeting. A new two-seater aluminium glider with retractable undercarriage, a Blanik, has been purchased in Europe to replace the club's previous trainer which was damaged at Taupo. Frustrating shipping problems have delayed the Blanik 's arival and members are naturally hoping for a speedy delivery. The Blanik is a highly regarded machine and will no doubt gain a lot of interest from existing and prospective members when it begins flying the local skies. The club already has a Ka6 single-seat glider. Although the Ruapehu Gliding Club is not a large club, its friendly and enthusiastic members enjoy excellent facilities and flying coriditions. There are vari ous national and regional competitions for pilots to enter and the club occasionally stages socials as well as weekends away flying at other gliding clubs throughout the country. One such event is the regular Christmas flying at Taupo which always proves popular. Gliding is a fascinating and rewarding sport made especially enjoyable within a friendly club atmosphere such as that of the Ruapehu Gliding Club. The club normally meets for flying sessions every Sunday at Ward's airstrip north of Raetihi.
