Racing with BULLY

This week we have a great feast of racing and trotting with the grand opening on Tuesday (today) when both the Melbourne Cup and the New Zealand Trotting Cup will be run. Later in the week of course the New Zealand Cup will be run at Riccarton, so punters will have a very busy week indeed. Punters visiting the TAB in Ohakune on Melbourne Cup Day will have something special to brighten their day

as the Nation family has arranged quick fire raffles, lucky numbers etc plus one or two other surprises. So all you folk who only visit the TAB once a year (Melbourne Cup day) come along and try your luck. Over at Flemington on Tuesday I still like Kiwi, Foxseal and Bounty Hawk. For the New Zealand Trotting Cup, have a wee thought about Enterprise while for a real outsider Stampede could cause them all some concern. As for the galloping cup on Saturday I have a real liking for Manehu who is being especially prepared for this by Noel Eales at Awapuni. The win of this fellow at T rentham was very impressive and he is sure to be in wonderful order when he arrives at Riccarton. Avana is my choice for the classics but the Mainland is all agog with a three year old called Canterbury Belle so it could be a great race. Waikato races this week

in the North while in the Central Districts the focus will be on Otaki Maori Club. From our man in the Waikato, I hear Manu Bay at Te Rapa is cherry ripe while over at Matamata Document has his connections quietly confident that his turn is near, while Cambridge has high hopes for Kay Dee. For Otaki this week, horses doing good training work include Aptitude, Wellson and Nampa, while Helens Joy from Woodville can soon be expected to pay his keep. Our New Zealand entry for Japan, Librici was disappointing again in his last race, the W.S. Cox Plate, but his owner Mr Don Looker is still confident that the race has done Librici a lot of good and that he will strip a very fit horse by the time he gets to Japan. Remember Bully tips them first ... in the Bulletin. Good punting.
