Two heavyweights raise $80 for IHC fund
Despite bad weather conditions the Spring Cattle Fair at Raetihi on 1 8 October attracted a good crowd of potential buyers. Mr Bruce Boswell, of Dalgety Crown in Raetihi, said there w&s buying power from King Country, Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui and the Waimarino, With 780 cattle up for sale he said the yarding was bigger than normal.
Mr Boswell said the cattle were in good order and were a credit to their vendors. Of particular note were the two large Friesians up for sale. Both beasts were bought by Mr John van Wynbergen of Inglewood. He paid $1499 for the Friesian Hereford cross and $1130 for the Sahiwal Friesian. A competition to guess the animal's weight was held and raised about
$80 for the IHC. Mr Tony Herbert guessed the exact weight of the Friesian Hereford ... 960 kilos. He also guessed the exact weight, 900 kilos, of the Sahiwal Friesian. Mr Bill Doble and Mr Cliff Geraghty tied with Mr Herbert for first place. Mr Boswell said the prices overall were very satisfactory on the outside market;
