College student returns from 'trip of lifetime'
Ruapehu College fifth former, Kerri Wilson, 15, of Arawa Street, recently returned from the 'trip of a lifetime' on the Spirit of Adventure. Kerri, who was nominated by History teacher, David Archibald, along with other staff members, spent ten days on the ship, sailing to the Coromandel and up to the Bay of Islands. He described the trip as fantastic and was only seasick on the third day while they were sailing in rough seas. Sponsored by the local Rotary association, Kerri was chosen because the College felt that he would be a good representative of the school and that he personally would benefit from participating in the voyage. Although he has been described as shy, Kerri intends to address the College assemblyand Rotary on the trip. Mr Archibald told the Bulletin that children who go on the 'Spirit of Adventure' usually benefit in many ways. Some mature as individuals both physically and mentally whilst others unfortunately derive very little from the experience. According to Mr Archibald Kerri Wilson, who plays in the First XV and is a good all round sportsman, has benefited from the experience.
"I believe Kerri has . matured. He was previously shy in coming forward, the trip has done him a lot of good," said Mr Archibald.
"We are all looking forward to hearing more about his ten days on the Spirit of Adventure," he concluded.
