WAIOURU PRIMARY SCHOOL'S NEW PRINCIPAL

Fauri Morgan, the newly appointed principal at Waiouru Primary School is looking forward to his stay in Waiouru. Previously a teacherat Reporoa Primary, Mr Morgan has also taught in Rotorua, Tokomaru Bay, Ruatahuna, Matamata, Matahina Hydro Scheme, Hauhunguroa, Turangi and Huntly. Although Waiouru is probably his biggest challenge as a principal (with 16 staff and over 400 pupils) Tauri has previously been principal at five other schools. Mr Morgan has recently started playing golf which he will no doubt continue to do in Waiouru but he has also been a provincial rugby player as well as being involved with representative tennis, softball, badminton, boxing and gymnastics. Mr Morgan and his wife June both take an active interest in the community and serve on a variety of committees including outdoor education, rugby, golf and Kohanga Reo. Mrs Morgan, who is at present serving on the Reporoa College Board of Governors is involved with the Reporoa PTA, Kohanga Reo, Maori culture club, and the local golf and rugby clubs. At the moment Mr Morgan is living in Waiouru by himself but Mrs Morgan and their youngest son Rex will join Mr Morgan later in the year when Rex has completed his school certificate exams at Reporoa College. Rex, who played rugby against Ruapehu college for Reporoa 1st XV earlier this year is also a tutor of the Taiahi-Maori weaponry. Tauri Morgan obviously takes a great pride and interest in his work — he

was given an Associate Award from the New Zealand Educational Institute and feels a strong commitment to children. In fact he has been impressed by the friendly and responsive nature of the Waiouru children and by the welcome he and his family have received from the residents of Waiouru.
