BADMINTON

A successful season has just concluded for the Waiouru Badminton Club: The club entered three teams in two grades of the Wanganui Interclub Circuit. Two teams were successful in winning their respective competitions. The B Grade team, consisting of Chris and Edwina Dittmer, ^Brent Nixey, and Vonnie Tasker, with reserves Vonnie Sandford, Gordon Clarke and Trevor Hennessy, played 9

matches winning all, and conceded only 3 individual games for the entire season. This team won the competition for the second year running, and it is worth noting that the hardest game in the competition was played against the Taihape B Grade team who came runners-up in the competition. The C2 team also won its competition. It's team members were Trevor Hennessy, Dal Dewes, Kevin Hicks, and Jacque Murray. This team won its

Northern Circuit competition on a countback of games over its nearest competitor, Ohakune Cl. The winning team from the Wanganui Circuit travelled to Waiouru on Sunday 30 September, where they played against " Waiouru C2. Waiouru won the match se.ven games to one. The Waiouru Cl team also played well coming fifth in the Northern Region Interclub competition. The club season concluded with the club championships held on 13 and 15 September. The results were: Ladies Singles E. Dittmer 11/6, 1 1/4, V. Tasker runner-up. Men's Singles C. Dittmer 15/10, 1 1 / 1 5, 1 5/ 8, T. Hennessy runner-up. Ladies Doubles V. Tasker/ E. Dittmer 15/0, 15/12, A. Bently/L. Benfall runners-up. Men's Doubles T. Hennessy/ C. Dittmer 1574, 15/5, D. Judd/A. Jeffers runners-up. Mixed Doubles C. Dittmer/ E. Dittmerl5/9, 15/5, T. Hennessy/D. Dewes runners-up. Junior Boys Singles P. Burrell 15/8, 15/10, K. Jones runner-up. Junior Girls Singles K. Pickering 21/7, Z. Sandford runner-up. Mosl Improved Male P.layer K. Jones. Most Improved Female Player J. Murray.

The trophies were presented at a social on S|aturday 15 September by the club patron Mr K.B. Chesterfield, and the club president, Major R. Hartnell. The club hopes to compete successfully again next year and wishes to thank all those in the region who have helped out and provided them with competition.
