Raetihi sign ready
The carved sign which has been prepared for installation at the eastern entrance to Raetihi is now ready. Carved by 28-year-old Robert Mana in the Raetihi workshop of cabinet-makers Alan Brown and James _ Clifford, the sign has been designed for a site on the corner of SH4 and the Raetihi-Ohakune road, next to the former police station. At the suggestion of Cr. Ken Summerhays it was decided that Council should approach the MOT to seek
its recommendation as to its exact location and height in order to achieve maximum impact and legibility by day and night. Council also decided to approach the Police Department to ascertain what plans they had for the siting of the new police station as this too could affect the position of the sign. (Note: the former Police Station, originally the Raetihi Courthouse, has been sold and is due for removal from its present site in the near future).
