Ruapehu Radio closes down

Ruapehu Radio completed its two-month stint in Ohakune on Saturday night at 7.00pm and has packed up its equipment ready to become Radio Kapiti in November. Station Manager, Dave Campbell, takes the operation down to Paraparaumu later this week for a threemonth stay, pleased with the response from advertisers and listeners alike, here in the Ruapehu Region. "We will be back next year" he told the Bulletin last week. "I will be applying to the Broadcasting Tribunal for a warrant in June of next year," he added. Mr Campbell said that as the ski season is so variable, a two-month stay is sufficient but can obviously be reviewed on a year by year basis. Other staff members will scatter around New Zealand — one, Linda Skates, is in fact off to the United States for a few months. Lisa Blamires, who has been heard on air every day with the Community Report, is taking up a position in Auckland as assistant to Phil Gifford, editor of the

new Cue Magazine. She also plans to work on Auckland's up-market magazine, Metro. Disco-jockey, Tony Baynes, hopes to stay in the region to train as a Park Ranger and will be working for the Parks Board over the Christmas holidays\ Jon Diamond has been appointed Production Engineer at Radio Fifeshire in Nelson, where he will also fill an announcing role. Copywriter, Lloyd Solly is joining Dave Campbell at Radio Kapiti. Mr Campbell feels very sorry for people in

this region who will have to go back to hearing static with their music. "I feel that the poor radio reception the region normally receives has meant that the public's response to us has been tremendous. They go from receiving virtually nothing to something that is enjoyable as well as informative and with a local flavour." "We have also been fortunate to have such talented broadcasters as Keith Richardson," he concluded.
