CHANGE OF STATUS FOR SCHOOL HALL

A proposal that the Raetihi Primary School Hall be re-designated as a 'community hall' was made atj lastj month's | meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council. Cr Andrew Cornwall, who is also a member of the Raetihi School Committee, said that the committee "were looking at various ways in which the school hall could be used as a community hall for a variety of local functions other than school-only functions." Mayor Garrick Workman supported Cr Cornwall saying that there was an obvious need for such a hall in which community functions could be held but it would require a re-desig-nation. Only last year the previous council had considered acquiring a building foraTown Hall for just such a purpose and this latest proposal would be a much cheaper and more practical alternative. Council supported in principle the concept of using this under-utilised school hall facility as a community hall.
