FALSE ALARM

A false alarm, resulting in confusion at the Ohakune fire station, was caused by a technical fault in the alarm system last Friday week. Fire chief Max Martin said that the siren which went off at about 4.50pm on Friday 7 September was caused when a pair of wires which run from the telephone exchange to the station, lost their voltage and caused the alarm to start. Mr Martin said the alarm system is a fail-safe one which means that when something goes wrong, such as a loss of voltage, the whole alarm procedure is activated.
