SOCCER

Waimarino United reversed their previous week's result against Turangi on Sunday 26 August, this time prevailing 5-0 at home. Two first half goals from Gary McMillan, whose presence has been sadly missed up front in the past few games, and an own goal gave Waimarino a handy 3-0 lead at halftime. Turangi, had severai chances throughout the game but were unable to convert any of them into goals. Darryl Koenig, normally a reliable striker in the box for Turangi, had one of those days he would care to forget. James Waierea scored a fine individual goal early into the second half whilst David Archibald scored a penalty. Archibald was asked to take the penalty by captain Tom Ball, presumably because as goalkeeper he had had not much else to do! Thus, Waimarino United continue on in this F.A. knock-out competition open to Northern League teams as well as local clubs.
