Raetihi zoo?
The Waimarino Club in Raetihi completed a successful showing of wall mounted and stuffed animals last week at their rooms in Seddon Street. Ninety-five exhibits, including deer, wild pigs, goats, wild cattle, mountain birds, a wallaby and other unique animals were the focus of attention. Perhaps the most unusual animal was a lamb with two bodies and only one head which Des McFadyen found on one of his slink-skin runs. The highlight was undoubtedly a large moose which Raetihi resident, Donald Robb shot whilst on holiday in Canada. Along with the moose he also bagged a bear whose skin was prominently displayed. Committee members were extremely pleased with the response to the exhibition and according to Neal McLean, the success has given members the confidence to run another such showing perhaps next year. Meanwhile, they are interested in hearing from other locals who may be interested in displaying their souvenirs.
