Fire calls
On the 4th August we had a fire at our premises. The fire brigade were notified through dialling 111. The fire brigade finally arrived. The fire siren went up at 8am which was activated by the Wanganui telephone exchange and the local fire brigade reacted in the usual way. One of the brigade members waited for almost 1 minute in the engine before knowing where to go. The information received then informed them that the fire was somewhere out the Pukekaha Valley. It wasn't until they were 10-15 minutes on the way that they found the actual location. The tapes were re-run at Wanganui and the name of the premises on fire was found as it was given in the original phone call. Luckily the fire was under control by the time the fire brigade arrived, but what if it wasn't!!!! Special thanks to the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade but it leaves a lot to be desired about the emergency dialling through Wanganui, s. Richardson
