Cont'd from page 15 Carl Arthur Zweibruck, 22, driver for the NZ Railways, was convicted and fined $140 on a charge of inconsiderate driving. He was also ordered to participate in a defensive driving course. Mr D.G. Harvey appeared for the defendant. ★ ★ ★ Mr David Johns, 38, owner of Dave Johns Bobcat Servicesof Ohakune, was convicted on two charges, one of using a goods service motor vehicle when a current certificate of fitness was not in force and the second one of showing a reading on his distance recorder that was more than the maximum reading specified in the distance licence displayed on the vehicle. Mr D.G. Harvey, appearing for Dave Johns Bobcat Services, said that Mr Johns had employed a new clerk who had inadvertently misfiled the application for a new certificate. The company was fined $20 on the certificate charge with court cost of $20 for each charge. ★ ★ ★ Barrett and Taura Transport of Raetihi, were charged with exceeding the gross weight of both a truck and trailer. They were convicted and fined on both charges. In respect of the truck $175 and the trailer $125. Court costs, unless stated, were $20. ★ ★ ★ A 22-year old Raetihi woman received a suspended sentence on a charge of stealing from, a local bookshop. She was ordered to pay $50 towards the cost of her prosecution.
His Honour requested that the press supress her name. She was further ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. * ★ ★ Three people appeared in Ohakune District Court last Thursday on charges related to events, reported nationwide, at Ohakune Hotel on 21 July 1984. Arthur David Berridge, 22, forestry worker of Raetihi faced five charges of assault. Mr P.J. Brown appearing for Berridge asked for summaryjurisdiction stating that his client pleaded not guilty to all charges. Leon Adrian Berridge, 22, parks board assistant from Raetihi also pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault on the same night. Mr Brown sought bail for both his clients which was granted by Judge A. Satyanand and set at $750 each. They were both remanded to appear in Ohakune Court on 18 October. Owen David Berridge, 20, crane operator of Wanganui, was unrepresented and pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty. The court heard how the constable had attended a disturbance at the Ohakune Hotel at 10 p.m. on Saturday 21 July. Owen Berridge, who had been drinkirig there, was approached by the constable. The defendant later stated that he did not recognise him as a police officer although the constable was in uniform. His Honour convicted and fined Berridge $225 with $20 court costs, requesting, that $75 of the fine be paid to I the police constable.
