WAIMARINO A&P ASSOCIATION TO CELEBRATE 75th JUBILEE
1986 is to be a most important year in the life of the Waimarino A&P Association, for this is when they will stage their 75th Jubillee Show. In the past an A&P show was a family day out, this being the only time some people, especially those in metropolitan areas, could take a closer look at the stock and produce shown by4 their country counterparts. Today, Shows have to compete with all sorts of different activities, so their committees are constantly working towards having something a little different each year to attract the public. Being in the heart of a farming area, livestock has always played a large part in the Waimarino A&P Show and the early years saw a number of classes for dairy cattle, something that due to our geographical location we no longer have because dairying is now a dwindling industry within the Waimarino. Over the years the dramatic change in farming and livestock technology has meant that the A&P Show has had to constantly change and rearrange its schedule to cater for the many new and varied concepts. Society deems that we move with the times and so the bullock team giving their display at the local Show is just a memory for many people, being replaced by a parade of all the most modern machinery and vehicles. The Waimarino A&P Association too has seen the various changes of lifestyle over the decades but still£ tands as proud as ever in its presentation of the local Show. In 1986 the committee hopes to provide the public with nostalgia mixed with insight so they will be able to see for themselves what 75 years as an active A&P Show has meant to. the community.
