Auction raises $5000
The Lions auction held at their den in Ohakune on Saturday to raise money for the Cancer Society, proved very successful. The total raised for the Cancer Society was about $5000. Lot One, a Tenshode Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4002 train, was bought by a Mr Fisher, for $850. Another Tenshode train, a Great Northern EMD F-9 was purchased by an agent for $700. Several other trains did not meet the price required in auction and they became subject to negotiation upon completion. The auction was marred earlier on when a gentleman from Auckland was seen to bid for a train. Auctioneer, Bruce Boswell from Dalgety Crown in Raetihi, closed the bidding with the man at $210. The man indicated to Mr Boswell that he was not bidding and that he "would not pay $210 for that rubbish!". It transpired that he had a nervous eye twitch which led the auctioneer to believe that he was bidding.
