Racing with BULLY
Racing in this part of the world this week sees Foxton in action and a more friendly little club would be difficult to find. It has the right atmosphere and not too bad a track eithen Naturally it is of the sandy variety, more so even than Wanganui, but for all that it seems to suit most horses. One of New Zealand's leading trainers, Paddy Bussutin, is based here at Foxton, along with -a number of others and his record speaks for itself. His recent assaults on Riccarton must be some sort of a first
with the number of winners he and jockey Gary Phillips were associated with. Local horses that could show up include Cody and Raffles Esquire and possibly Shodan. Several from Awapuni to catch the eye with impressive trials are Lomondy and don't be surprised if Tredici comes up at long last. Cobham is now trained at Awapuni and he is still more than a handful at the barrier on race days. His starting stall manners are perfect on the training track but on race days he is bad news. He was like this when trained in the north and his connections thought that the change of quarters may do the oracle. It apparently has not. From Wanganui Allsand is moving nicely and could be worth a second look at his next start. The Waikato area is concentrating its efforts at Te Rapa this week and Burhill Dancer is a 'good thing' according to our source in that area. Kitty O'Shea and Fair Sound also seem to have trained on to
the complete satisfaction of their connections and it only needs them to complete their side of the business and to lead their respective fields home this weekend. Much has been said recently about the decline in finances of the racing industry and the need for a jolly good shot in the arm, and I am prepared to jump on the band-waggon and state that a TAB jackpot could be the answer. I understand that the jetbet system is geared to accommodate this type of betting and it must surely be worth a try. Jackpots have proved on course that they are popular with betters and I feel that this popularity would continue if opened up to off-course betting. David Walsh and Gary Phillips, who both did so much iast season to brighten the closing period with their riding skills, are both off to a sensational start having ridden four winners each last weekend. Bully tips them first. ..remember Lomondy... and you have seen it first in the Bulletin.
