DEATH OF WAIOURU IDENTITY

A well-known Waiouru identity was killed in a headon collision just south of Taumarunui last Tuesday evening. He was Mr Saciri ('Sam') Dzaferic, 53, owner of two service stations on State Highway One in Waiouru. Mr Dzaferic owned the Crossroads Service Station (Mobil) and the Desert Road Service Station (Caltex) as well as other properties in the Waiouru township including two

houses in Rangipo Street. It is understood that he also had business interests in the TAB building, the Sahara Restaurant (now closed) and Aldos Restaurant, all on the main road. The accident which killed Mr Dzaferic occurred at about 10.30pm on a slight bend half a kilometre south of Taumarunui on SH4, according to a police spokesman. The driver of the other car which collided head-on with

Mr Dzaferic's car, Mr John Ngamanako Ngatai, 24, mechanic of Taumarunui, was also killed. Mr Dzaferic was travelling south towards Waiouru when the accident occurred. Both men were the only occupants of their two vehicles. Driving conditions were good, the cause of the accident unknown and police have appealed forany witnesses to the collision to come forward.
