Racing with BULLY

First our congratulations rnust go to David Walsh for an absolutely magnificent performance in winning the jockey's premiership. His effort in riding 5 winners at Wanganui lifted him well clear of Gary Phillips who must also be complimented on such a fine season in finishing the year six behind Walsh on 107. Almost as "attention grabbing" as the hoops was

the battle the trainers had for the lead in their competition, which _ was finally won by the father and son combination of Dave and Paul O'Sullivan. They finished the season five winners up on G. Rogerson, who has been the winner for the last four seasons. Close battles like these two premierships add great interest to the final weeks of the racing year so here's hoping we get more of the same next year. The new Jet Bet system installed recently is still having teething troubles and Saturday, 28 July, was no exception. The gremlins got into the machine early and it continually broke down. Mrs Shirley Nicol, the TAB manageress, reports she was very impressed with the patience and understanding of local punters who sometimes had to wait long periods to get their bets on. Nice one Ohakune punters. Shirley hopes that it is not

too long before these problems are sorted out. We hope nobody missed out on the big divvies. I suppose some even saved a little through not getting on. This week we have another day's racing at Levin and I think the bet of the day would be the locally trained colt Te Awa Lad who is a last start winner. I think we can be with this one with great confidence. Imaprince is another local doing impressive trials lately and is down to start on his home track. Just up the road at Foxton good work by Panphilae and Trousinna will be noted and further success for them is not far away. Up north Tiger Shark, Warrior Bold and Decorate continue to work very well. Remember, Bully tips them first and this week it is Te Awa Lad. The Bulletin is first again with the winners.
