Grand parade planned

Ruapehu Jaycees are planning a grand parade through Ohakune later this month. It should have great appeal for the many children and their families who will be here for the August school holidays. According to Jaycee spokesman, Mike Punch, 18 businesses have already committed themselves to providing floats for the parade and another ten or so have indicated interest. The parade, which is due to assemble at the Ohakune Transport yard in Burns Street at 1.00pm on Saturday 25 August, will be judged at 1 30pm. Then it-will move off at 2pm up Clyde Street to Arawa Street where it will turn left into Arawa Street and left again into Ayr Street before coming to rest in the parking area in front

of the BNZ and Ohakune Photo Pharmacy in Goldfinch Street. The parade will be accompanied by lolly scrambles, bicycle competitions for children, fancy dress and stalls. "The parade is principally a fun event for the local

Waimarino community but if we do make any profits they will be put back into the community, "said Mr Punch. "What we want now is for more sports and social clubs to get involved so as to make the parade a really representative cross section of the community."
