Waimarino Wine Club winners
The Waimarino Wine Club recently defeated their arch rivals the Taupo Wine Tasters to regain "the slab", the symbol of supremacy between the two clubs. The teams sat down to competition at the Mangawhero Lodge in Ohakune under the watchful eye of adjudicator Andrew Cornwall, who eventually pro-
nounced the Waimarino Club winners by six points. The slab, a beautifully dressed block of kahikatea, was donated by the Taupo club at the inaugural competition in June 1980. The clubs have competed bi-annually since, with Waimarino at present slightly ahead. Last month teams of five
competitors sampled five wines, and in a high scoring event both acquitted themselves well. Pictured were, left of the judge, the unsuccessful Taupo team, and right members of the Waimarino Wine Club, John Lythgoe, Craig Walker, Judy Doyle, Dianne Pritt (seated), and Barrie Boyle standing.
