Council bags AHI over rubbish
The practise of Turoa Village's weekend tenants dumping their rubbish bags beside State Highway 49 as they left to return home on Sunday evenings was criticised by members of the Ohakune Borough Council when they met last Thursday night. The bags are sometimes overfull, often split open and rubbish strewn all over the place beside the highway ... "it doesn't create a very good impression on this major access road to Ohakune" said Cr. Ellen Gould. All councillors agreed that despite the 3-times a week rubbish collection from the 50-acre site, something had to be done about providing residents with an attractively designed receptacle in the Turoa Alpine Village for residents who left over the weekend,
to leave their rubbish for Monday morning's collection. AHI Turoa had undertaken to provide this facility some time ago but nothing appeared to have been done fo date. Council decided to write to AHI Turoa to remind them of their obligation.
