College enters share market team

Ruapehu College has entered a team for the fifth consecutive year in the Shares Investment Competition, a national secondary schools' competition sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Teams invest an imaginary $10,000 on the stock exchange at the beginning of Term Two and then a further $2,000 each two weeks. Shares are bought and sold at current stock exchange prices with brokerage and stamp duty, dividends, rights, bonuses etc. all part of the game. Over 170 schools have entered again this year. Ruapehu College team members are: Jimmy Samson, Justine Dodd, Neil Fredericksen, Tony Tidswell, Bryan Pawley. The team co-ordinator, Mr Laurenson, hopes this year's team will do well but stresses the standard set by previous college teams is very high. Ruapehu College was placed 11th in 1980, 6th in 1981,2nd in 1982 and 3rd in 1983.
