Waimarino Hospital not to have therapeutic spa pool
The Waimarino Hospital at Raetihi is not ta have a spa pool. This was decided at last month's meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board. The staff at Waimarino Hospital had requested that monies being held in trust locally be used to install a spa pool for the rehabilitation of patients. This request apparently did not have the support of the Charge Physiotherapist or the Charge Occupational Therapist at Wanganui Base Hospital. One board member, Mr G.T.W. Butler, however said that "to refuse the request when the money is available appears highhanded." He suggested that the matter should be referred back. However, the Chief Nurse said that the Waimarino nursing staff had had the advice of the physiotherapist and occupational therapist explained to them and felt that these explanations were reasonable. It was therefore recommended that the request for a spa pool be declined.
