Ruapehu College to appoint Board of Governors

An election of members to the Ohakune Ward of the Ruapehu College Board of Governors is to be held on Wednesday 11 July. There are three nominations for the two places available. The candidates are: Janet Martin, Bonnie Bramley and Matthew Mareikura. Appointments to the other two Wards — the Borough of Raetihi Ward and the Waiouru Town District/ Waiouru Military Camp Ward — have already been made as the number of candidates did not exceed the number of places available on the Board. They are: Borough of Raetihi Ward Terence Winston Tapp Bronva Joy Meyer Waiouru Town District / Waiouru Military Camp William Alexander Harding Representatives will serve a 3-year term commencing on 1 August 1984.

Borough of Ohakune Ward candidate profiles Janet Martin (36) is married to local market gardener Ron Martin and lives in Arawa Street, Ohakune. They have two children, one in the 3rd Form at Ruapehu College and the other in Std 4 at the Ohakune Primary School. Janet Martin has lived in Ohakune for the past 13 years and has been secretary of the Ohakune Primary School for the past two-and-a-half years. She has previously served on the committee of the Ohakune Primary School Parent / T eacher'Association. Bonnie Bramley (34) is joint owner of the Sunbeam Ski Lodge in Ohakune with her husband Mike. They have two children one of whom is a 3rd Former at Ruapehu College and the other is at the Ohakune Primary School.

Bonnie Bramley is a qualified primary school teacher. She did her training at Hamilton Teachers College and taught for eleven years in various- places including Wairarapa, Waikato, Paekakariki and for one year at the Ohakune Primary School when she first arrived here in 1979. She has also lectured on 'Infant Reading' at a summer school at Massey University prior to coming to Ohakune and is now on the local liaison committee of the newly established Wanganui Regional Community College. -Mathiu Mareikura (42) has lived in Ohakune for most of his life. He is a qualified bridgeman and has been employed by NZ Railways for 22 years, 20 of them based in Ohakune and two (1970-72) in Wellington. Four of his older children have already been through Ruapehu College and he has one child attending there as a 3rd Former. Three younger children are at Ohakune Primary School. Mathiu Mareikura was himself educated. at the St Joseph's Convent School, Ohakune Primary and Ruapehu College. This will be the first time he has put his name forward for a school committee though he has previously served on the St Joseph's Convent Committee.
