Ruapehu College

On Monday 18 June Mrs Lindy Greig, the Guidance Counsellor of Taihape College visited Ruapehu College with Mr Stuart Ritchie and 3rd Form teachers Mr D. Archibald, Mr G. Hubbard, Mrs R. Brebnerand Mrs S. Haddon for a 3rd Form teacher inservice day at Ruapehu College. The teachers discussed several aspects of 3rd Forms with attention giving to skills on building up selfesteem amongst 3rd Formers and special attention given to students having trouble with the school system. The teachers practised verbal skills in speaking to students and also practised skills in games. This lasted all day from 10am to 3pm. ★ ★ ★ Mrs M. George plans to take 5th and 6th Form Art classes to Wellington between 10 and 13 July on a field trip. The aims of the trip are to complete the compulsory section of the, prescription on New Zealand Art and to widen students' experience of Art in 'context with the -city.

Mrs George proposes to take the students to see the National Art Gallery, the Dominion Museum, the City Art Gallery, Bowen Gallery, Dowse Art Gallery, the Wellington Arts Centre, the Railway Design Studio, Wellington Polytechnic, St Patrick's College and Wellington High School's art department. ★ ★ ★ Ruapehu College 4th Form Horticulture group have started a college orchard by planting several apple and a couple of cherry trees at the back of the school. Amongst the trees are 3 Granny Smith trees, 1 dwarf Apple Splendour and an Apple Sturmer Pippin as well as 2 Cherry Tangshe. ★ ★ ★ Several staff memberS of the College have been off school sfck over the last few weeks, leaving the College short-staffed.
