Survey for College students

Nigel and Shelagh Buck, both teachers at the Ruapehu College are doing research as they study for their diplomas in education. Their research involves the study of the standard . tests that every Primary School and Secondary School student takes as part of their basic education. The study is a comparison of school-age children in the Waimarino area with children in the rest of the country. Therefore, the aim of the research is to see if the local students match up to the national standards. The Bucks are circulating a data sheet. On the sheet is sociological background information for each student.

Mr and Mrs Buck say they want to see if their research can show how a student will perform on the test simply by looking at his upbringing and environment. Another goal the Bucks have for their research is to help local schools find where , they fit into the national system. They will then be able to teach their pupils more appropriately. The data sheets will give the students a number so no one but the Bucks will know their identity. The results will be through a computer at Massey University. Mr and Mrs Bucks said they hope to have their project finished by the end of the year.
