BULLETIN TO PROVIDE ELECTION FORUM

In the run up to the General Election next month the Waimarino Bulletin intends to publish material — letters, statements, press releases etc — from all candidates contesting the King Country and T ongariro seats. We hope too to feature public opinion and comment about the issues that affect us here in the King Country and Tongariro electorates as well as on the wider issues of national importance and concern. In offering this opportunity to all candidates and the electorate — of whatever political persuasion — we believe we are fulfilling our role as a community newspaper with the responsibility of communicating all points of view. The Waimarino Bulletin

takes no political stand in this matter and we will show no bias or favour in respect of any political party or candidate. If we appear to be featuring more material from one political party or candidate than another it will only be because we receive more material from that source. So it is up to the parties and candidates themselves to supply us with information ... each candidate and party will be given an equal opportunity. While we expect to receive some policy statements and comment on the broader issues affecting all New Zealanders this information can usually be found in the national and provincial newspapers as well as on television and radio.

We, as a community paper, would prefer to receive policy statements and comment on local issues with a direct relevance to the King Country and Tongariro electorates. We therefore invite all candidates in the King Country and Tongariro Electorates to submit their policy statements on local and regional issues. We also invite all readers in the Waimarino Bulletin circulation area to participate in this election forum by sending in their comments and questions. The Bulletin will, within the constraints of space and time, publish all the material we receive with priority being given to those issues with local, regional and community interests.
