Racing with BULLY

Wanganui Jockey Club provided punters with good racing last weekend and the club was lucky to have better weather than the lower part Of the North Island. Bommerang was the most impressive winner I saw on the second day and his jumping was a pleasure to behold as he left the rest of , the field trailing in his wake in the Wanganui Steeple Chase. Owned by wellknown racing identities Messrs H.S. and J.S. Dyke and trained at Tauranga by Del Roberts the horse was

very well prepared and this was its third win in a row over the big country. The jockey was Tony gillies. Another good winner was Master Trac who won the Birthday hurdles by about eight lengths, having been ridden by jockey Mita with much patience in the early stages. Trained at Te Awamutu by Graeme Sanders he is another from this well-kriown stable to show a distinct liking for Wanganui. Horses from either Graeme Sander's or his father Bill's stable are always a good bet on this course. A disappointment on the second day was the horse with local connections, Le Ana, who only finished eighth in the first leg but could improve when the going is more slushy than was the case on Monday. One local who did come from Wanganui all trembling and shaking was a well known identity who struck a trifecta of $10,763.75 for the princely sum of $ 1 . Good on you Jock.

Manawatu second day this coming Saturday and two from Awapuni to stay with could be Can Lah and Nukiimai while in the jumping line it would be best to stay with Life Guard. Over at Foxton Berceuse and Rapanella have been working extra well, and with a recent trials win to its credit Berceuse could be the one to pay your next grocery bill. From Wanganui, Pirganella has had tongues wagging a bit lately so watch him the next time he races. Waipa races this weekend at Te Awamutu and on this funny shaped course it is usually those horses that can take up a • good position early and are well placed at the corner for home who do well so watch for Connells Bay. One for all punters ... Excellsior. Remember 15 June is Jet Bet Day for Ohakune so all are invited to try it out and use the slips instead of your lips ... good luck, Bully tips them first and you will read it in the Bulletin.
