Racing with BULLY
The committee of the Wanganui Jockey Club has announced that they will, again this year, in conjunction with the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club and the Wellington Racing club, be
offering a $100,000 bonus if any one horse can win the Wanganui guineas on 25 August, the Hawkes Bay Guineas on 19 September and finally the Wellington Guineas on 1 3 October. It is a very good prize to aim at and much interest is being created. The Cambridge ownertrainer and amateur rider Ken Browne had a great day at Rotorua last weekend when he owned, trained and rode three horses to victory. This must be some kind of record surely, and Browne could have a very good year indeed as he has 23 horses in training on his Cambridge farm at present and most are destined for hurdle and
steeple chasing. Browne has now turned 50, but he is a very astute man with horses and can still show a lot of the younger riders a thing or two. While on the subject I feel I must mention the untimely death of the well known commentator both on radio and television, Mr Glyn Tucker MBE. Glyn was an authority through and through and the presentation of his programmes were always a pleasure to listen to and watch. His famous phrases of "he will win from here to the Post Office" and words such as "preposterous" etc will be sadly missed. This week sees the McGregor grant Steeples
and the Campbell Hurdles at Ellerslie and it will pay to follow form from over the Queen's Birthday Weekend. Without having the benefit of nominations at this time I would suggest one to, watch could be Outright.
