RAETIHI HOTEL UNDER JOINT OWNERSHIP
Ray and Iris Parr of Raetihi will be taking over the Raetihi Hotel this Friday (1 June) thus ending a lengthy period of relief management at the Hotel. They become joint shareholders, along with their son, Larry who is a wellknown film producer with Mirage Films. He was coproducer of the locally made 'Smash Palace' but is in Europe for the Cannes Film Festival so will not be present for the changeover. Both Ray and Iris are well known locally. Iris, in particular, is a fifth generation member of her family to live in Raetihi. Her grandfather, . Augustus Dauphin, opened the first bakehouse in the area at what is now Bower's Electrical, and also started Pikes Boarding House on the Raetihi Printing Company site. In addition, he was a foundation member of the Raetihi Borough Council. Iris, herself, has worked at Dalgety Crown (formerly Newton King) for thirteen years and as a nurses aid at Waimarino Hospital. In rugby circles, Ray is particularly well known, having represented King Country in the early 1950's
in addition to being a Maori All Black. He has also coached local rugby teams over the years and is a keen supporter of the Raetihi rugby side. Their son, Bruce, a prison warden at Waikune Prison, is a well known local entertainer and locals ean look forward to seeing him featured at the Hotel.
