EXHIBITION IN OHAKUNE

An exhibition will be held at the Lions Den, Miro Street, Ohakune throughout Queen's Birthday weekend, which will be of great interest to many of our visitors and indeed residents. Organised by Val Parkes, the exhibition will feature photographic art by Errol Vincent of Solart Photo in Ohakune. In addition, Makers of Raetihi will be showing a variety of their hand made furniture including a double bed, cot, chest of drawers, coffee table, bedroom screen and china cabinet. Hungarian-born Juliette Eszes from Auckland will be bringing down samples of her embroidery, showing the different provincial styles from Hungary. Her work has been valued at $3,000 and is a labour of love, some pieces taking over a year to complete. Local Raetihi girl, Hqney Winter, will be exhibiting her ceramics, many of which are her own designs. Visitors will be amazed at the various shapes and forms ceramics can take. The exhibition is to raise money for a rare disease known as Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, characterised by blistering and shearing of the skin on trivial injury. There is as yet no known cure or treatment although comprehensive research is being undertaken at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
