Desert Road collision claims three lives

Three people were killed in a collision 15 km nojth of Waiouru on the Desert Road on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at 8.50am when a late model Ford Falcon travelling north collided with a southbound truck. All occupants of the Falcon died. They were Brian Robert Mcllwaine, a 45-year old company director of Marton, his son Mark Lytton Mcllwaine, aged 11 and Timothy Mark Barrett also 1 1 years of age. The driver of the truck was unhurt. Police said that road conditions at the time were very slippery with snow and ice. Police also reported that the driver had been wearing a seat-belt but the children, who had been in the rear seat, were not wearing seat-belts
