Ski promotion underway
The Central North Island skifields were well represented at the Melbourne 'Snow Show' by Turoa Skifields and other members of the Ohakune community. The 'Snow Show' which ran for three days from Friday 27 April to Sunday 29 April featured fashion parades, freestyle ski displays, the ski retail trade and tour operators. Altogether 18,000 visitors were recorded and a lot of interest was shown in the New Zealand ski regions though it's still an uphill battle to get Australians to accept that the North Island skiing facilities are as good if
not better than those in the South Island, said Turoa's public relations manager, Andy Chapman. "Ruapehu's chairlift capacity on its two major skifields equates favourably with all the South Island skifields," said Andy. Other Ohakune residents who were in Melbourne and who helped out on the skifield (Turoa and Whakapapa) and tour (Guthrey 's) operator stands were Terry Drayton, Bonnie Bramley, Trish and Angela Cohen. Andy Chapman leaves for Australia again today — this time to attend the Sydney 'Ski Show'.
