POLOCROSSE
The Hawkes Bay Association hosted the Twelfth New Zealand Polocrosse InterAssociation Championship at the Tomoana Showgrounds in Hastings during the weekend of the 7-8 April. Forty teams were representing their associations from throughout the North Island. The local Wanganui-Waimarino Association finished with mixed success. . The A grade beat Waipa, lost to Rangitikei Manawatu and won against King Country 3. The second Division beat Waikato 2, lost to Rangitikei Manawatu 2 and to Wairoa. The third Division team beat Kaipara East Coast, lost to Waipa 2 and to Northland.
The successful team was Wangahui-Waimarino Ladies who coasted through with high goal scoring to, beat Waikato 17-1, Waipa 19-1 , King Country 21-2 to go on to win the final against Central Plateau last year's holders by 18-7. Achange sonrrewhat from last season's final, With Central Plateau taking the title in extra time. Wanganui-Waimarino dominated play throughout the game and were never in any doubt about taking the title. Individual awards were also presented to three local girls: Sue Goldfinch, Best No. 1 and Best Pony; Kaye Avery, Best No. 2 and Enid Windle Best No. 3.
