The competitive season began in earnest on Sunday 8 April for Waimarino United as they recorded a 7-0 win in their opening game of the Tongariro Football Association's Winter League. Having been beaten the previous week in a friendly game by the same team, United were keen to reverse the result, which they were able to do in a comprehensive fashion. The

scores were: J. Laurenson 2, S. Van De Wiel 2, J. Waerea and J. Dennison 1 each and an own goal. Waimarino United play seven games in the first round.
