Waiouru girl selected from 600

Anne Pawley, 18, of Waiouru, qualified as one of the select few when, from 600 applicants throughout New Zealand, she was chosen as one of only 10 young people to receive a N $700 bursary from the Inland Revenue Department to study accountancy at the Manawatu Polytechnic in Palmerston North. Of the original 600 applicants, 200 were interviewed. These interviews were followed by other elimination procedures before the final 10 were

selected earlier this year. Anne started her 3-year course of accountancy studies last month. Anne, who was born in Christchurch, has spent several years in Waiouru where her Army father is stationed. She has spent a total of four years at Ruapehu College but was in Christchurch's Hornby High School for her School • Certificate year. She returned to Waiouru and Ruapehu College last year and was accredited in five U.E. subjects at the end of 1983. At the end of her 3-year full time accountancy course she will be bonded to the Inland Revenue Department for the equivalent length of time. In the meantime, she is guaranteed a Christmas holiday job with the department for the duration of her course.
